As a reminder, the last day to register for the Learning Session is September 1st, 2025.

      The T1DX-QI 2025 Annual Survey

The T1DX-QI Annual Survey will be live on August 18th! At that time, survey information will be shared with centers PIs and coordinators. One survey should be completed by each clinic, and the deadline is October 1st.

The first Barbie doll with T1D!

On July 8th, Breakthrough T1D and Mattel announced the release of the first Barbie doll with T1D. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing T1D representation and understanding.

      Barbie-T1D-box-feature

Barbie was thoughtfully created with input from the T1D community. She features a blue outfit (a nod to diabetes awareness), a CGM, an insulin pump, a phone showing her glucose app, and a purse to carry her diabetes supplies on the go!

      QI Portal Users Feature

The T1DX-QI Portal has been adding features and enhancements over the years to assist you in your QI work. As a result, we thought it would be a fitting time to revisit the T1DX-QI Portal User Feature. If you'd like to be spotlighted in your very own interview, please reach out to QI@t1dexchange.org and we can share the questions with you. And, as always, signing up for the portal is fast, easy, and can be done by following this link.

          Names:  Kai Jones, MD

          Site: Washington University

          1. What is your favorite feature in the QI Portal and why?

I enjoy the Library feature because it allows me to read about projects being conducted at other centers. This serves as a guide for designing our own projects. It is also encouraging to see sites publish their results and share examples of their PDSA cycles through the IMPROVE feature.

          1. Practically speaking, which feature (in addition to the above) do you use most often and why?

I frequently use the Dashboard to track our progress over time and identify areas for improvement. The Compare feature has also been helpful when discussing ways to enhance our clinic with leadership, especially regarding groups with differences in health outcomes.

          1. How does the QI Portal support your improvement efforts?

            Jones_Kai_381-00976

The QI portal is a great tool to help us identify areas for growth within our centers. It is very important for us to track our progress in this way as many providers use different methods to document routine screenings, insulin pump and CGM use.

                1. What do you dream the QI Portal could do that it doesn’t do currently?

It would be helpful to have accurate data about our hospitalizations and DKA rates. As many of our patients with recurrent DKA have care fragmentation, it would be helpful to pull in data from other hospitals in our system to identify those higher risk patients.

🆕New this month: QI Portal Feature

The QI Team is excited to highlight a key feature of the T1DX-QI Portal: the Resource Library. Here, you’ll find a curated collection of articles, tools, and best practices designed to help improve your center’s metrics. Browse organized collections, explore recommended resources, and save your favorites for easy access.

After logging into the Portal and clicking the 'Library' tab at the top, you'll see the following:

You can use the filters on the left-hand side to customize your search. Below is an example of filtering by resource type to show only multi-center case studies or change packages.

We hope you’ll explore the Library tab and everything it has to offer!

🆕New this month: QI Portal Issue Report Form

We’ve developed a new Qualtrics Form to help centralize the reporting of bugs and data quality issues within the Portal. If you encounter a bug or notice a data issue, please use this form to let us know—we’ll work to resolve it as quickly as possible.

Does anyone have a protocol they are willing to share for pediatrics (or adult) patients to wear their CGM and pump for surgery? We are adjusting our protocol within the hospital.
