Real World Data Project: T1D Total Daily Insulin Dose
The Daily Insulin Dose Real World Data Project aim was to estimate total daily insulin dose in children and adolescents with T1D. This project was sponsored by Vertex Pharmaceuticals and will be presented at the upcoming EASD 2024 conference.
The study population included:
A total of 14,358 individuals were included (mean [SD] age: 16.2 [4.3] years; 48.0% female; 74.6% white; 58.3% private insurance).
Study population had a mean (SD) T1D duration of 7.8 (4.2) years, duration of follow-up of 4.9 (2.7) years and with 3.6 (2.9) endo visits per year.
Findings from this study showed that:
TDD increased by age and reached a peak that coincided with expected pubertal timing, earlier for females vs. males.
MDI users had higher TDD than pump users, which may reflect the impact of technology on dose.
Higher TDD was observed among those with higher BMI.
The T1DX-QI Best Practice Advisory Equity Project (BPA-TECH) aims to standardize a process and equitable approach for prescribing Advanced Diabetes Technologies (ADTs) for people living with T1D. The BPA will be integrated into each center’s Electronic Health Record to improve rate of ADT prescription.
The Project PI's include Osagie Ebekozien, MD, MPH, Nestoras Mathioudakis, MD, MHS and Risa Wolf, MD. This project launched Q2 2024 and is sponsored by Breakthrough T1D.
There are eight participating centers:
1. Seattle Children’s Hospital (PI: Meenal Gupta, MD) 2. Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital (PI: Mary Pat Gallagher, MD) 3.Grady Memorial Hospital (PI: Georgia Davis, MD) 4.SUNY Upstate Diabetes Center (PI: Ruth Weinstock, MD, PhD) 5. New Questions:
Question:
Is anyone tracking the number of patients that order pumps but do not start them? If so, would you mind sharing what you’ve found? We are hoping to improve upon this at our clinic and catch those who got lost in the process, but are curious if there seems to be a general non-starter rate around all of the clinics.
Hi All, Does anyone have a patient handout or education material that goes over insulin pump troubleshooting when patients start new pumps? I found some information through ADCES, but curious what you all see at your sites that you would find helpful to have on an insulin pump troubleshooting handout. Thanks!
