          Portal User Feature

          Name: Emilie Hess

Site: Joslin Diabetes Center at SUNY Upstate, Syracuse, NY

Years with the T1Dx QIC: Member since July 2021

          1. What is your favorite feature in the Portal and why?

My favorite feature would be the comparison reports. With all the different quality improvement projects that SUNY Upstate is involved in, I can easily select which metrics I want to compare. I usually have a list of numbers I am looking for before getting on the portal and this tool makes it easy for me to collect and show providers. With more adult clinic joining the Collaborative, I look forward to comparing outcomes. It will help me in the collaboration with other adult clinics.

          2. Practically speaking, which feature (in addition to above) do you use most often and why?

The one I use the most often is the dashboard. This provides me with effective and efficient numbers immediately upon logging in, which is very convenient. I use the dashboard during our meetings with the PIs to show how we are doing. Our PIs have even used this feature to show our clinical staff so they know how we are working towards improvement.

            3. How does the Portal support your improvement efforts?

I believe the QI Portal presents a clear visual of successes and where to focus our efforts on improvement to the QI team. Being able to compare to other clinics that are doing similar projects and initiatives, allow for us to look at how we have improved over time (the reports that we chose dates for).

            4. What do you dream the portal could do that it doesn’t do currently?

On the QI portal it would be helpful to have a “Whole T1D Population Report” that allowed for us to see our unique patients’ numbers. A lot of the time we are seeing monthly data. By providing a whole T1D population report at a year to date option, we would be able to see data that is without duplicating patients. The distinctive numbers will empower us to make more data driven decisions.
