    QI Portal User Feature

Name: Faisal Malik, MD, MSHS and Alissa Roberts, MD

    Site: Seattle Children’s Hospital

    Years with the T1DX-QI: 3

    ARoberts Headshot

    1. What is your favorite feature in the Portal and why?

Our favorite feature in the Portal is the health equity plot feature that was added this summer. As a diabetes center, we have been actively working on justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, particularly around diabetes technology use. It’s so wonderful to have real-time monthly data on CGM use and insulin pump use that we can break down by race/ethnicity to inform our QI efforts.

    2. Practically speaking, which feature (in addition to the above) do you use most often and why?

We use the “My Reports” feature the most since it allows us to readily access reports that we’ve created specifically for our site related to our QI priorities. We love the “My Reports” features because we did not have the means to robustly visualize our data by race/ethnicity, gender, language, and insurance before we had access to the QI Portal.

    3. How does the Portal support your improvement efforts?

The ability to compare our performance with other pediatric diabetes centers has been incredibly helpful in supporting our QI efforts. We love being able to visualize how other sites are performing on some of the important diabetes QI metrics. It is inspiring for our internal QI efforts and importantly, helps us set realistic goals for what might be feasible. This also has informed conversations with hospital leadership as it helps us advocate for resources that may be needed for us to achieve outcomes similar to peer institutions.

    .

    4. What do you dream the portal could do that it doesn’t do currently?

As a team, we would love to have the QI Portal provide information about how each center is collecting data for each QI metric. We have found that there are some measures, such as diabetes technology use, which can be extracted from different sources (e.g., patient-reported data, provider-reported data, prescription data). It would be helpful to have more granularity with respect to data collection to help us compare our outcomes to other centers. We believe this would also facilitate sites to learn from one another on how others are leveraging their clinic’s infrastructure to collect T1DX-QI data.

    Q&A Corner

There have been several newly asked questions on the internal member website. Please use this link to respond and see all questions.

    1. We are trying to restructure our clinic RN staff at Rady’s. Our clinic RNs currently carry diabetes patients as well as endocrine patients. We are wondering if other centers within the Exchange have their nursing staff separated into diabetes educators with separate endocrine nurses.  And are there separate diabetes educators in addition to staff RNs?
