Our T1DX-QI network has achieved a major milestone. Collectively we have 63 papers from our work across major diabetes journals including Lancet and Diabetes Care. We started our publication journey in 2020 with the paper describing the establishment of T1DX-QI, our scholarly outputs demonstrate the value of type 1 diabetes real world data impact, health equity and quality improvement. This is a major celebration moment for all of us! Thank you for your contribution. You can read all of our papers here. Have an idea for a new paper, let us know. QI Portal User Feature
Name: Dr. Mary Scott
Site: University of Alabama
Years with the T1DX-QI: Over three years
What is your favorite feature in the QI Portal and why?
I love that it’s user-friendly and you can quickly look at a lot of data. Given the equity projects we’ve been involved in, it’s easy to reference outcomes by insurance type or ethnicity. The graphs are also easy to interpret and read.
Practically speaking, which feature (in addition to the above) do you use most often and why?
I’ve been looking at average HbA1c, DKA and pump and CGM use across tabs to include in presentations and review health equity metrics for trends.
How does the QI Portal support your improvement efforts?
Good visuals to use with our projects – we have a graph that correlates with presentations and publications, and the QI Portal makes capturing them really easy. I also like the option to compare to other centers and see who is making strides to learn their methodology and the things they’ve done to target the measure you’re analyzing. It’s helpful (sometimes daunting!) but helpful.
What do you dream the QI Portal could do that it doesn’t do currently?
I’m excited for it to include the type 2 data as that gets rolling so we can look at that population as well. Adding more metrics that overlap with US World and News Report would be great. We’re also eager for more SDOH metrics so that those are visible as we begin targeting those projects.

New Questions:
Question:
Looking for diabetes peer curriculum and looking to see if anyone has Endocrine fellow training curriculum in diabetes technology.
Name: Nana-Hawa Yayah Jones
Clinic: Cincinnati Children’s
Question:
In the last year, we’ve established a Moderate Care Unit to care for patients with mild-moderate DKA on our general pediatrics floor. Do any other sites have any experience with managing DKA and/or an insulin drip outside of the ED or PICU? If so, what does your process look like? And how do you think it has improved your care for patients with diabetes?
Name: Ashley Garrity, MPH
Clinic: C.S Mott Children’s Hospital, University of Michigan
Question:
I am wondering if there is a resource or any clinic site that may have a list of questions and/or a questionnaire that we can distribute to patients to get their input about how we can best help them to manage their diabetes. We received a DEI grant to apply towards helping to decrease the % of public pay patients with A1c’s greater than 9. We have purchased gift cards and medical center parking vouchers to offer patients who respond to some questions or a questionnaire. Now we just need to figure out how to best go about figuring out what questions to ask!
